Sir Alex Ferguson praised his side's determination after they bounced back from last weekend's heavy derby day defeat to Manchester City with a hard fought win at Everton.
There was nothing pretty about United's success at Goodison Park but Ferguson and his players are unlikely to be concerned with that as they collected all three points thanks to Javier Hernandez's winner.
Leighton Baines struck United's bar with a superb free-kick in the first half but otherwise Everton were restricted to no more than half chances.
Nemanja Vidic earned special praise for a towering performance on his return from injury but Ferguson was keen to stress how it was a team performance that got the job done.
"Everybody finds it difficult (coming) here, the supporters are fantastic. They are fantastic at home and you have to perform," he told
Sky Sports.
"In the first half I thought the football we played was terrific.
"In the second half Everton kept popping that ball into the box but with Vidic in that type of form we were never in trouble. He was fantastic, every ball he seemed to head clear.
"The impression I got was that the players seemed content to sit and defend and not to lose the game. Maybe that's a positive sign after all the statistics people have bandied around about chances created against us. It didn't happen today.
"They all worked their socks off, they had to. That was the type of game it was. We were solid in the midfield with the likes of Park and Tom (Cleverley) coming in."
Ferguson also acknowledged that in match-winner Hernandez he has one of the best finishers in the business.
"His movement is fantastic, if we can get the ball into the box there is no-one better. His movement, understanding of space and finishing is fantastic," said Ferguson.
